We left for Tahoe around 1 AM and the sunrise caught us along that twilight-zone area between Bakersfield and Sacramento most Californians refer to as “the Middle of Nowhere.”
We had no plans to stop in Sacramento, but once there, I felt I owed it to my California-Girl heritage.
The first thing that comes to mind upon personally visiting the state government building is how breathtakingly beautiful it is. After seeing nothing but miles and miles of rural roads and fields, you are welcomed back into civilized society by this exceptional example of classical architecture.
We were only there for an hour and a half, but the visit was by itself worth the 8-hr. drive north.
